Uses For Thieves Oil

By Gregory Medeiros

Thieves Oil came about in the mid 1300's and has been with us ever since. It was first developed by some out of work perfume and spice traders. They used it to protect themselves from the Bubonic Plague, also known as the Black Plague and Black Death, in the course of their newfound professions as thieves and grave robbers. The uses for Thieves Oil are many. You can buy thieves oil from many essential oil manufacturers or you can easily make it yourself. The recipe can be found in DIY Thieves Oil Blend on this site. If you decide to make your own Thieves Oil make sure you use only therapeutic grade essential oils from a reputable company. Many of the essential oils on the market today are perfume grade. You should not use these oils topically as they may contain dangerous toxins which will be absorbed through your skin. Never take these oils internally. Even organic oils may be diluted with harmful ingredients.
Thieves Oil is a hot blend. If it gets too hot when using it topically just apply a little carrier oil to the hot area. Eucalyptus Radiata, an ingredient in Thieves Oil, should not be used on children who have chronic respiratory issues. Consult a professional before using this blend on any child with chronic respiratory issues.
Anytime you use essential oils on children, babies or animals make sure you dilute them in a carrier oil. Pregnant women should always use caution and consult a professional when using essential oils. Citrus oils, products made from citrus and other oils can be toxic to cats. Never use any of these on a cat. Always avoid eye contact with all essential oils. If an essential oil does come in contact with eyes put a few drops of a pure vegetable oil in the eye and seek medical attention. Never use water.
